Battle Brewing over sugary drinks
Hunter Cooper 10/12/16 5th period Having tax on soda is not right because it is similar to having grocery tax just on sugary drinks. Soda tax will hurt small businesses that do not have as much products as bigger businesses do. “ After a long national fight about taxing soda and other sugary drinks, voters in the San Francisco Bay Area will consider a tax on the drinks”. “grocery tax" will lead to higher prices on other goods. This will hurt small businesses and customers struggling to survive in one of the country's most expensive places. Putting tax on soda will force small business owners to raise their prices which would lead to people not buying as much pop. This will improve the health of children and families. The beverage industry is against this idea. The American Beverage Association is suing to prevent the 1.5-cent-per-ounce tax from taking place.
