John Adams should have a monument in Washington D.C.. John Adams was an American Patriot who served as the second president of the United States (1797–1801) and the first vice president (1789–97). According to “History.com” John Adams was the first president to live in the White House. A strong student, Adams graduated from Harvard College in 1755. He then taught school for several years and studied law with an attorney in Worcester. John Adams was a lawyer, diplomat, statesman, political theorist, and, as a founding father, a leader of the movement for American independence from Great Britain. John Adams helped Thomas Jefferson in drafting the “Declaration of independence” in 1776 and was its biggest advocate in the Congress. John Adams drafted the Massachusetts Constitution, which was approved by voters in 1780 and is still in effect today. In 1770, Adams defended British soldiers accused of killing five colonists on Boston Green in what became known as the “Boston Massacre”. Even though he disagreed with British policies, he wanted to ensure the British soldiers got a fair trial. Adams was a leader in the American Revolution. He was sent to France in 1778 and later in 1782. During the second trip he helped create the Treaty of Paris with Benjamin Franklin and John Jay which ended the American Revolution. France started an undeclared war between U.S. and France known as the Quasi-War. Adams strengthened American forces but decided not to declare outright war. With U.S. navy inflicting damage on the French, the hostilities decreased and in 1800, Adams sent another peace delegation to France against the advice of the cabinet. The Convention of 1800, signed on September 30th 1800, and ended the Quasi-War; Bringing a peaceful end to the war. The Quasi War is considered John Adam’s major foreign policy achievement. The quote “You can’t be anything you want to be, you can only be what you deserve to be.” means if you don't want to put the hard work into something that you want, then you will not get what you are after. When I become an adult I would like to become a professional NHRA driver. To be a professional at anything you have to practice to get better. Practicing is the hard work. If you don't practice, you are most likely not going to be good. If I become an adult and I don't practice racing I will probably not win races. You have to put the work in if you want profession. Being a professional NHRA driver would impact my life a lot. It would impact my life because I will know that anything is possible as long as you put the work in. As a student wanting to be an NHRA driver is what drives me to work harder and harder at not only racing, but to listen to what people who motivate me say that I could benefit from. What I mean is I got to see a professional NHRA driver in person once, and When I told him that I wanted to be a driver like him he said to talk to most of the other drivers, and they will tell you the same thing. The other drivers will tell you that they took after people who motivated them to be what they are today. Those people are the ones that helped these current drivers be so good, because they pushed these people to work hard and not give up, until they reached there goals in life.
I have learned how to think of definitions for a word creatively, rather than going to the dictionary definition of the word. If I could change one thing about the assignment it would be instead of getting certain words from our classes; we could pick a certain amount of word's from each class that we think are important to know, and use them as posters. I think this assignment will help me remember terms in the future
Should Apple have resisted FBI pressure to hack an iPhone? Hunter Cooper 5th period 3/2/17 “The (FBI) has dropped its lawsuit against Apple, ending its desire to force the company to create software to unlock the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino, California, gunmen.” “Apple” should not allow the (FBI) to hack the iphone's. American citizens rights are at stake, and the purpose of the law is to protect the people’s rights. “Because of the privacy features of the iPhone, the FBI could not search Farook's phone for information about the attack without Apple's help.” The (FBI) needs “Apples” help with finding out information about Syed Farook. Farook and his wife killed 14 people in a mass shooting in San Bernardino. The (FBI) wanted Apple to write new software to unlock Syed Farook's iPhone. “Apple” refused. The (FBI) has a third-party in decoding the iPhone of Syed Farook. This let’s “Apple” off the hook. “The FBI’s decision to drop its lawsuit against Apple does not help the actions of Tim Cook.” Tim Cook is Apple's CEO. Cook refused to unlock Farook's phone to help the FBI's investigation of the attack. Cook responded to the FBI with a letter. He named the letter a “breach of privacy” with “chilling consequences” for free speech. His action, now proven right, has set back the efforts of the FBI to stop the actions of extremists or terrorists by months. “Apple” has the right to provide products that help Americans protect the fourth amendment. According to “Tribune News Service” Apple phones have features that protect the privacy of the information on them, and the Fourth Amendment guarantees people this right to privacy.” The Fourth Amendment says the government has a right to search personal property if they have a warrant. The Fourth Amendment does not say that a third party like a technology company, can be forced to aid the government in their searches. Forcing “Apple” to make software that would be able to hack into Iphones would be violating the rights of the company. “Apple” should not allow the (FBI) to hack the iphone's. If the (FBI) hacked the Iphone American citizens could be in danger. The American Citizens rights would be at stake. With this third party that the (FBI) has found; it let's “Apple” off the hook. “Apple has the right to make things like the Iphone that helps Americans protect the 4th amendment. “How to drag race”
Hunter Cooper 2/7/17 5th period In NHRA drag racing the racecars are constantly breaking track records with speeds of 330 plus MPH each year. There are 4 major NHRA drag racing classes that are famous, and seen on tv. They are Top Fuel Dragster, Top Fuel Funny Car, Pro Stock Car, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. There used to be more than that, but spectators were not happy with the classes they had, so NHRA Eliminated them. NHRA is the fastest racing motorsports in the world. NHRA has changed dramatically since 1951. In the 1950s, top performance marks were 140 mph in nine seconds. Today, they’re more than 330 mph in less than 3.7 seconds. Back then, winners earned little more than a trophy and bragging rights. Today’s racers in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series compete for trophies and bragging rights as well as a share of more than $3 million in prize money. Famous drivers like Don Garlits, Connie Kalitta, Andrew Hines, and Greg Anderson are all just some of the drivers that shaped the NHRA into what it is. Don Garlit is considered the father of drag racing. He is known as "Big Daddy" to drag racing fans around the world. Connie Kalitta is a retired American drag racing driver, once known as "The Bounty Hunter". Andrew Hines is a five-time National Hot Rod Association Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, and Greg anderson is a current NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver for KB Racing, driving the Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. All these driver have revolutionized their NHRA cars to make quicker times, and faster speeds. Don Garlits was the first driver to ever race an electric top fuel dragster. That is just one way these drivers have helped the sport. Although Drag racing seems easy; the cars these drivers race are very ill handling and tough on the driver’s body.To drag race you have to do the following 1.Warm up your tires in the water box. 2.Approach the starting line from the staging area.3.Watch the Christmas Tree for the starting lights. 5.Leave on green. 5.Power through the finish. 6.Follow the proper slow-down etiquette. When a racer warms up there tires in the water box it means they do there burnout to gain traction to the track surface. The water box is just a little puddle of water that the drive goes through to make it easier to do a burnout. When a racer approaches the starting line they go slow so they don't go too far and get a red light. A red light means disqualified. The christmas tree is a stand with lights on it that tells the races when they are staged, and to go, or if they are disqualified. Once both racers are staged the top 4 yellow light will turn on. Then the tree flashes 6 yellow lights, then green. That's when you go. If the racer leaves before green they have a red light and they lost the race. There are a lot of benefits to being an NHRA driver. “Every driver type is paid different, depending on their series. Drivers from road racing series such as, World Challenge, or a similar sports-car series, if paid at all, don't make much. Some as little as, 25K...that's why so many race, in multiple series. NASCAR drivers for the Sprint Cup Series, can make millions of dollars a year, in fact...Danica Patrick, is one of the, five highest paid "Female" athletes in the world.” Being an NHRA driver is benefiting the drivers because they get the fame, the fortune, and much more.” Pro Stock Motorcycle riders, more often than not, make $30,000 A year just with races. “Top guys, on the Vance and Hines Screaming Eagles(Motorcycles) team may, make as much as 75-100K, after marketing money, and merchandising.” Antron Brown as an example and a team like, Don Schumacher Racing could be making a base salary of around 100-150K a season. There are some benefits to racing and I like them. NHRA is still the fastest racing association in the world to today. NHRA has changed dramatically since 1951. In Drag racing there is a lot of steps to follow. There are a lot of benefits to being an NHRA driver. Being in NHRA seem’s to be awesome to me, and I hope this essay has encouraged the readers to enjoy not only drag racing, but other series like NASCAR, FORMULA 1, and much more. 1.
